Enjoyed the puzzle overall, but am I the only one who thinks 44D suggests ICE rather than ICY?
Looks like the developers fixed the issue where one used to zoom to the top of the main thread when backing up from a comment thread. Now it's just buttery smooth right back to where you left off from. Well done š»š»š» team! I see you.
The author and editor of the puzzle are displayed before those of us online press play. Why not the puzzle name too? That we halve to check it manually is just poor interface design! [Emus aren't real]
An excellent Tuesday puzzle!
I thought "pit" as a place to retire in terms of racing, where a car might need to drop out of the race after going to the pit if there are substantial issues. Fun solve! When filling in the last few squares I was sad that it was coming to an end.
@Aaron ... are not! ... i'll see myself out.
Fridays are usually fun, but I am so CROSSAT this puzzle. It certainly was not ALLSMILES for me as many of the clues and I didn't AGREE. My solve was truly a LURID scene. You could hear my SOBS from SANAA and PALAY. Despite the beautiful FLUTESOLO and the harmonious TUTTI ensemble playing ALLATONCE, all I wanted to do was to drink TITOs from a *HIP* flask and get SAUCY. Despite many folks thinking this was one of the gOAT(E)S, ultimately, I descended into QUIETQUITTING. Seriously, this one was brutal for me - but I certainly learned a lot :).
Very much enjoyed this puzzle!
@Barry Ancona Are Sunday titles not displayed prominently in the print edition? Regardless, the best practice in interface design would be to make this a configurable setting. [Emus do exist - they live in Santa's workshop]
Anybody else start with COAL? šš
@Karen I also enjoyed the puzzle! And love the question. Alas, although it seems to me that "rebus" is the only fitting word to express its own multiple, Britannica and Collins both indicate "rebuses".
On Android (pixel 9) when you read replies to a comment and then go back (with the button or swipe) it vaults you to the top of the forum. :/
Emus don't exist
@JayTee It's nice of you to mention this to folks, but I hope the devs here will acknowledge that the information should be shared with users by default, given similar to how it is in print. And we should have the option to remove the share if we don't like it. Although this might seem like a trivial consideration from the perspective of one person, think of the implication of one second of frustration and wasted time per user over thousands of users over years puzzling. The collective inconvenience adds up.
Yep! I think people get confused between the dimensionality of the graphical representation of the curve and the dimensionality of the curve itself. e.g. y = sin(x) This is a 1-d curve, given that there is a single parameter. The y axis on the graph represents output, rather than input.
@Pedro Yep! I think people get confused between the dimensionality of the graphical representation of the curve and the dimensionality of the curve itself. e.g. y = sin(x). This is a 1-d curve, given that there is a single parameter. The y axis on the graph represents output, rather than input. As an aside to the devs, two nits discovered on Android (Pixel 9) today. 1) When in a comment thread, clicking the popup "pencil" icon on the lower right creates a brand new thread at the top level, rather than a comment within the currently viewed thread. 2) When writing a comment of any kind, the text view does not move when the text extends into the keyboard space. This means thatthe user constantly has to type blind, and minimize the keyboard to check correctness. There is no way to scroll down while typing.
There's a new NYT game called "pips".
@Matt R. PS: oops! I meant to submit this as a reply to @Pedro. Oh well.
