@Michael Weiland The milkweeds, golden Alexanders, pipevines, and spicebushes in my yard are growing, and I anticipate visits from many different butterflies, not one of which will have emerged from a cocoon.
@Lucas Sparta was Sparta. What didn't exist yet was Greece. There were many city-states around the Mediterranean that spoke Greek, but there wasn't a unified country.
In today's mini, 7-across, with a photographic lens, applies to a greatly reduced scope. Something like "economics" would have fit the clue better.
