This took a long time, partly because I had TINGE instead of TINCT, CDS instead of IDS and COLA instead of COKE. Some enjoyably clever clues, though.
I loved ELEPHANT but yes that NE corner was tough. Didn’t help myself by having FAT instead of FIR for the purchase you might trim (I was thinking of a cut of meat).
I couldn't understand what I had wrong. Turned out I was thinking of tea caddies rather than golfing caddies. That may be my nationality showing.
Bit of a slog for me - and took much longer than usual. Couldn't see why only some of the side entries dropped a letter until I read this column.

@surfertom007 agree on this clue. I settled on the answer but really couldn’t see a connection. I wondered whether it was some kind of theatre slang for abuse.
