My first Thursday without cheating! Getting the theme helped. Happy May Day to everyone!

Glad my mum was around to help me with Noah's ark answer. The rest were ok for me. One of my fastest Mondays yet. Helped that I'm British so the Dr Who answer was easy. In Leeds there has been a bar on a repurposed boat on a hill in the middle of the city called "The Dry Dock" for over 25 years so I was lucky there. Made up for yesterday's which was very hard.

This is the closest I've ever got to completing a Thursday after restarting my crossword hobby in January when I broke my tib + fib by slipping on ice. Got the theme. Got lots of difficult answers. However, it was the SE corner that flummoxed me. Didn't know the mushroom, the mayor or the athletics org. Too much American! Haha. Had to cheat to get the mayor's name but I still feel proud.

Lovely to see Leonora Carrington, the Lancashire-born but very much Mexican painter, in the crossword. Other than that I didn't really enjoy anything about it.

@Manhattan I loved it and particularly appreciated like of US-specific or pop culture knowledge!

@SP I had never heard this but I guessed it, despite being very unsure that "tizzy" could mean "dither". It was the only word that fit for me. I had though comedy/mystery since I think those mysteries are just that, but didn't think an American audience would have a genre called "comy mystery". They would see red.

@Lauren this was the first time I've got close to solving a Saturday. And the ones I missed I kicked myself about.

My silly mistake was having "kens" as the desirables in the dating pool. Couldn't be further from the truth!
