@john ezra I was super impressed by the tenacity of said "Daring Duo"! For what it's worth, it took me many many attempts (and many fill revisions once I'd come up with a theme the editors liked) over a couple of years before I got my first "yes", and I still get around 10 rejections for every acceptance. And it's pretty unusual for a grid to fall into place so quickly, I just got on a roll with this one :)
Couldn't immediately remember POLYPHEMUS so it took me a bit to catch on to the theme. Happily I didn't come across the revealer -- or figure out THE CYCLOPS -- until I was probably 2/3 done, and genuinely laughed out loud. The lone "I" being the start of I CAN'T SEE following a singular poke was the cherry on top of an already very clever puzzle. Loved this! Favorite puzzle in a while!
@Rich in Atlanta a "one-off" is slang for something that's just done a single time with no intention of repeating it.
Great collection of phrases and a fun revealer! I'd never heard "holy camoly", just "holy cannoli". And always thought it was NELLie, not NELLY. But otherwise, loved this one.
@Lewis This was so nice to read, many thanks & happy solving!
Agree with the crowd that BOLDFACED is a no-go... it's like "chomping at the bit". And holy cow was this difficult for a Tuesday. But a lot of clever cluing and fresh fill. I liked it a lot!
