This may be the most uninteresting puzzle I have ever seen in a lifetime of doing the Times puzzle every morning when my paper edition is delivered. When the answers are about the inner thoughts of a beginner in puzzle construction rather than about language and culture- whether facts, puns, ideas or any other categories, the areas in which you need to search your mind and memory are narrowed. I am not even going to bother to finish it.
@Man and 2 dogs My reaction was not to the difficulty, it was to the "uninterestingness" of the answers when you solved the puzzle.
The ease of movement through the ambiance of this crossword awakened my memories of passés développés in ballet class.
I fell for it completely! I do my puzzle in ink on the actual newspaper. I thought the printers had left words in error. Didn’t even think about the date. Very successful Poisson d’Avril!
@Jay There is a difference between hard and obscure. Hard is interesting and challenging. Obscure? Non merci.
@Bill in Yokohama If you consider obscurity in language challenging, then perhaps they were challenging. If you consider the relationship of the language to culture and history, then they were boring.
