I enjoyed this puzzle although I have to admit that “SHORT I” caused my brain to emit a repetitive clicking sound.
@John I also struggle often. On clues that are about individuals I have no idea about, I like to look them up and read about them. I don’t consider that cheating, but learning! I get so much out of it.
Just the right amount of wordplay to keep me on my toes!
I found the northwest corner to be quite challenging, and almost dropped an “F” bomb. Luckily there were sweeter alternatives at play today. A fun and fast paced Wednesday!
As an Ethan, I’m tickled to have made the puzzle today!
A little trickier than recent Tuesdays. What fun.
FEH! I’d never heard the word feh before. 😝 I always love learning something new from the puzzle.
@Andy This one boggled me, too. I only got it through the crosses. The clue is referring to the phonetic sound that repeats over and over in “repetitive clicking”, which is a Short “i” sound.
I guess it’s a SAINT’s ‘cross’ to bear the SINFUL…
@LGinDC - OLE is often used in the puzzles referring to a crowd’s cheering (here, “ROOTing”) at a soccer/fútbol match.
I believe Sanrio has officially confirmed that their catlike female character is actually not a cat but a girl.
A little clunkier for me than a normal Tuesday, but still engaging.
I’d be interested if someone could share how editors, journalists, or solvers are able to search how often entries have been used in past puzzles. I’m always surprised when past frequency is mentioned because I often assume incorrectly. For example, I’d assume “SUCKING FACE” is not common but perhaps I’m wrong.
