@Kagree what does the entire answer have to do with anything. The circled letters are the odd man out and the uncircled letters are the answers to the clue. But what does the entire answer have to do with anything?

I finished the puzzle fairly quickly but I still don’t get why “dotted” if the answer to 53A. Also where are the central black squares?
