@Chaz L. This clue/answer has bothered me for ages in the Times crossword. KPH is a weird American-only “backronym” from MPH, and not a real unit designation. No speedometer in any metric-using country has anything other than km/h on the dial.

@CAC You are 100% correct that panino is singular. It infuriates me that a publication as supposedly erudite as the Times won’t just clue this in the plural, which would satisfy those who insist on using the colloquial (and incorrect) usage, and those who then feel they have to correct it in the comments.
