This was cute and not as quick for me as some others. I had to enter letters with one hand bec my dog was not happy if I stopped petting her. The sacrifices we must make :)
This was fun and I agree it was more straightforward than yesterday even with the rebus. I enjoy rebuses, in general, because they make me think out of the box (literally lol).
So so good! Fun clues, interesting twist and those BLOCKs. I got the C to O twist early so that helped but the middle part took until the end and required some extra pondering. So glad these two got that bolt of inspiration from out of nowhere. Gave me a fun solve for a quiet Sunday.
Apparently being tipsy is a good thing when solving Friday puzzles. I thought this one took longer than it did but I ended up under 20 minutes. I dredged the potoroo out of memory which helped. Enjoyable puzzle for my retirement day.
@Joya Yep. I (over)confidently put oops and dodge and left them in way longer than I should have. And probably a couple of others as well. Lots of crunchy fun overall though.
@Nancy Functional MRI. One of the many types of MRIs out there
@Jane Wheelaghan Tim Cook is the current head of Apple
@Andrzej He's a silver! My silver mini is approaching 2 and is so awesome. And I remember the complete transformation after her first groom. Poodles are so much fun (and scary smart at times but that usually enhances the fun).
This was fun. I finished it faster than I was expecting too given how unsure I was of what I had entered. But I was viking with the constructor on this one. And thanks to whoever mentioned San Marino (not sure if it was here or somewhere else) in the last week or so. I'm not sure i would have come up with that as quickly otherwise. Oddly enough having grown up in New England, SCROD was my last fill because I had NOt instead of NOR. But the word was used as catch of the day when I was a kid. I particularly remember Legal Seafood (before expansion) having scrod listed regularly and it was always good. Back in the day before flash freezing became a thing and everything became "fresh" always.
@Shimstu l did this as well. That will teach me to read the whole clue on the revealer next time. Oh well, we did it the hard way but we did it!
@LBG My first thought about today's Wordle was that it would break a lot of streaks. I only guessed it because it was the 1st word I could find from the letters that I had available. I was not 100% sure it was a word but I decided to try it and was thrilled when it was the answer.
Kudos to the constructor for this tough but awesome puzzle. I'm glad I started it this afternoon instead of this morning because I needed to be fully caffeinated for this beauty. The NW corner gave me the most trouble but finally cracked it although the whole solve was more piecemeal than usual for me. Oddly enough, wadi didn't occur to me even though I only had the WA so I got lucky there. I got ELBOWROOM off the clue but then thought it was wrong when I had _LMS_ until the lightbulb finally went off. All the excellent mental gymnastics to get the correct answers and to then actually really believe they were the correct answers. More like this please.
@Laura Stratton I also did it with no lookups. It wasn't easy by any means but just kept worrying at the clues I didn't know immediately and then it was solved.
@J. Hakim I did. Oddly enough, they often do.
@Vaer Yep. I saw that but it started tracking in early July. All those early Strands were practice, I guess.
7:12. My new personal Friday best by a couple of minutes. Guess I was on the contractors' wave length because this one just flowed right along and I had no idea that it was going to end up that fast while I was doing it. Love it when that happens but it isn't something that can be predicted.
This one was a lot of fun. It made me work a lot harder than yesterday as well. I was another buLLfrOG person for a long time and then I decided that POLLyWOG needed a y. It took me way too long to come up with Moonraker because I was a big Bond fan when it came out although that one was not a favorite. Surprisingly I remembered S&G did The Boxer and happily I guessed correctly which one wrote it. FURSONA was, very surprisingly, not the last word I completed but it was close. All in all a well spent 23 minutes.
@Charlotte K It took me quite awhile to flyspeck this puzzle at the end. For some reason I had BaRJ Khalifa and CaRIOLIS. I should know better than to do the crossword before having caffeine 🤣 Good luck.
@TholosTB You're in good company. A few of us did this exact same thing. Could have knocked me over with a feather when I read the column.
@Kate It took me way too long to see that one as well. I have no excuse, just a senior 10 minutes 🤣
@Renegator Same here. I have heard of it but it just wouldn't parse right for me. I wanted it to be Opionioneers. Brains are weird.
@Renegator it only took me 35 minutes but that surprised me. It required a LOT of brain stretching because it was so nice and chewy. I had to finish the NW corner last and was despairing of getting something to build around. Finally decided UCLA was actually correct (had wavered on that) and AZTEC was the right EMPEROR. And that, plus SAAB, got me to the end. Glad you stuck with it and got it finished.
@Xword Junkie And me as well. It was a fun theme. I don't ski so I didn't get the skiing part of it until almost the end with the black diamonds. But I did get the Hill part so that helped.
@Jennifer They are both slang for cash/money.
@yogafan did you go to Rice? I learned it there with a couple of additional lines.
@Janine I did the exact same thing. Just shook my head when it finally came to me.
@Trish It is another way of shortening narcotics. So, yes.
@Gregg Thank you. That clue/answer bothered me as well. I totally missed that way of reading the clue. Makes sense now.
@Tim The way I resolved this, thanks to Gregg above, is that Completing a game as fast as possible = a speedrun It was a nice fake out for a Friday.
@Margaret LOL!!! I have a few time outliers because I fell asleep or got distracted.
@SP I agree. This puzzle didn't take me very long but it was a fragmented process. It helped that I knew RONALDINHO and HAROLDRAMIS and guessed HONSHU more quickly than I should have. All in all a very fun puzzle to complete.
@Johanna This was absolutely my first thought and I also tried to shoehorn it in as long as possible. 🤣
