@scott Right. Why not just say "Parasite" or "Famous parasite," if an adjective is needed. Rods are straight. The Eiffel Tower is not.

I struggled with this. I'm still new to the NYTimes Crossword, with the sly tricks and so on. "When I'm Eight" really threw me, because I knew the correct answer. Math isn't my strong suit. Well, better luck next time.

I enjoyed it. I remember "PONE" from Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings' "The Yearling." Seems that the kid in the book always had some corn pone he was carrying around with him. "HEYDAY" threw me for some reason, and I thought it was "HER DAY." I have seen "DESI" Arnaz's name a lot in these puzzles.
