Mike, thank you for an absolute delight!! Seeing CRESCENDO and GLISSANDO in the same puzzle made my day! As a Juilliard violinist this puzzle was filled with so much that fills my musical life with joy. First opera at the MET...PAVAROTTI in Boheme when I was a student. CINDERELLA...My daughter's first opera at NYCity Opera, where she later sang in the children's chorus... Have worked with both Wynton and Branford, and it was lovely to see their father ELLIS in the puzzle...Have also had the pleasure of working with Victor BORGE – What a treasure! Subbed in the pit for the original Les Mis, so WHO AM I was a trip down memory lane... TUXEDOs – the bane of most of my male colleagues' existence. They are relieved that many orchestras now allow a toned-down all-black version of the dress code! I had no problem with DO RE MI FA SO LA TI DO...Although in solfège class at Juilliard it was do re mi fa sol la si do, your title clued me in to this being an homage to the film version of the scale. And now...I must go scale up as well as SCALE DOWN!

The article, "Santa Dies on Xmas Trip," is quite poignant. A young man, suffering from TB, brings a sled full of toys to a child of a poverty-stricken family. He collapses soon after arriving with the gifts, having walked through deep snow to reach the boy's home. If you'd like to read the article, here's the link: <a href="https://timesmachine.nytimes.com/timesmachine/1913/12/25/issue.html" target="_blank">https://timesmachine.nytimes.com/timesmachine/1913/12/25/issue.html</a>

@Janna Straub I’m also more accustomed to seeing it spelled with a U. When I lived in Hong Kong in the 90’s, it was almost always spelled Macau (or it was written in Chinese characters). I often took the ferry from Hong Kong to Macau.

@Laura Arghh!! I jumped at this too quickly! I wasn't considering that it was clued as an abbreviation...so, of course, it's SENator!!

@Marshall Walthew I, too, was thrilled to see EDGAR Meyer in the puzzle! I went to school with his wife and have played with him several times. What he is able to do on the bass leaves me awestruck! He plays the bass with a facility that makes one imagine he's actually playing a violin. Also loved seeing MAESTRO, OPERA, and SOLI in the puzzle. Ha! At first I tried Karajan for superconductor... but I realized that was a bit too obscure for a Wednesday. The concept of MAESTRO as a superconductor made chuckle, because in rehearsal we tend to address all conductors as "Maestro" whether they are "super" or not. And ARCTICS??? That definitely left me scratching my head!

@Andrzej Should be a great time to visit! Mild weather...and cherry blossoms! Visit Central Park! The Brooklyn Botanical Garden is also lovely in the spring. The Cloisters and the Close at St john the Divine will be full of blossoms...and there are peacocks (no emus!) that roam the garden at St John the Divine. It should be nice weather for biking. You can walk the High Line. Fun to visit the Edge or One Vanderbilt for a view from above. And of course, Broadway, the Museums, Chinatown, and a baseball game! I hope you have a fantastic time, and I look forward to reading about your adventures in our city!

@deb amlen I think 20A might actually refer to Japanese currency. There are 100 sen in one yen.

@Harry I'm in my 60's and know the phrase "so extra" from my twenty-something daughter's frequent usage.
