Oh, sorry, my bad. Guess I should have stumbled across it by now. Of course. Sunday October 30, 2022 was only 860 puzzles ago. How could I have missed it? And TEAMCOCO appeared once in 2019! So the cross was totally gettable! SMEW was just was the OREO of another day! Just not THIS day.

Solved the puzzle okay without understanding the themers, just ignored the clues got them from crosses. Got here and read the explanation and I am even more glad I didn't waste any time on them.
@Francis. These kind of themers are not worth my time, I have a full and busy life. If you have time for them, terrific... more power to you. I spend time on a crossword for the same reason everyone else does, they are fun and challenging. Once the squares are all filled in though, I could care less about the themes. Thanks for asking, I hope this is helpful to you.

@Richard I concur, never heard of either, and Alison Brie didn't help. The N in MINIFIG and the I in ALISON were my last two squares.
