Bragging that this is my 2nd Sunday Xword in a row where I needed no google assistance to complete/verify any square. Maybe I should start printing them out and filling them in ink. ;) Further, I love great wordplay in a Xword which is why I relish most Thursday puzzles. When I saw today's title, I was expecting the themed entries to have their first and last letters extend beyond the grid. Then I saw the clues with the blanks and I was warmed up to some cryptic-like work. Speak of which, I do wish the NYT would have cryptic style crosswords to complement their other word puzzles.
@Asher I couldn't agree more that the format is pretty bad! I was hoping there was an option to revert the layout to the prior display. Previously with the across and down clues in the same area on the screen, my eyes could dart between them with ease. Now my eyes have to traverse from left to right when I want to change solving directions? Blech!
