Lots of fun language in this one. I always like WHORL. I also got along with the cluing. Lots of blanks at first like all Fridays but I was able to grind. Northwest corner fell into place first after replacing JUICY with SPICY. Then SWEDEN gave me a leg up in the northeast corner. KINDASORTA (which I really like) was a big help across the middle/southeast corner. A really lovely puzzle with hardly anything boring or that was a stretch.
Absolutely wonderful. Well done. Just a perfect theme and a perfect Wednesday puzzle.
SE corner was tough for me. I liked TIMEPIECES and TEADRESSES. I also got stuck on adding an “n” to “one” on 50 down which made the SE corner all the harder.
Amazing long answers with good clues. Just a great bunch. ANTSONALOG crossing with WHOSAGOODBOY was just great. And IGETTHATLOT and PUTMEINCOACH were also excellent.
This was absolutely wonderful. A bit crunchier than most Tuesdays at first pass but I ended below my average - getting the theme helped me with the northwest quadrant- WHOLLYOWNED I thought was really nice. And any puzzle that mentions EB White is automatically awesome.
A lovely puzzle. Perfect Wednesday. I especially enjoyed the 3-letter clues and answers. Well done.
Lovely theme and wonderful execution. I almost got confused by “ASHWEDNESDAY” and this being a Christian-theme of sorts - but I couldn’t make “palm” work with “Sunday” so I figured out the reveal and it fell into place. Only negative comment: I strongly disliked the clue for 3 down. A judges ruling would never include “its”. They just say or signal “in” or “out”. I don’t play tennis but the disconnect between the language a judge would actually use and the answer bothered me.
Enjoyed the puzzle a lot. So many full length answers but it was still approachable and I finished pretty quick for Sunday. I’m still not quite getting 51 down. CANT…?
A joy. Fitting that “BEEPBEEP” was the revelation for me.
Sometimes you just don’t get along with a puzzle. The entire eastern half - highlighted by TEENTSY - was a montage of second guesses and maybes. I liked the northwest corner though.
