The quotation attributed to A.A. Milne in 55-across does not actually appear to be from Milne's work at all; it's one of many false Winnie-the-Pooh quotations (or what I call a "FauxPooh") that spreads virally across the internet. The real bear of very little brain would never have stooped to such saccharine levels. An article that discusses the misquoted Pooh phenomenon, including this very quotation as an example of words never penned by Milne: https://dirt.fyi/article/2022/09/misquoting-winnie-the-pooh
@Maude Was it the mere mention of PUBLIC RADIO that sent you over the edge?
Fun and hilarious! I love this constructor's fresh, sharp sense of humor. Can't wait to see more!
My favorite NYT Sunday puzzle ever! Kudos to the constructors on a fun theme, smartly executed.
@Desert Dweller Some clues are easier for certain demographics; it's always that way, and that's ok. As a mystery-loving Millennial with an interest in female global leaders, I thought SUN-IN, TEY, and ELLEN were all pretty straightforward. I'm sure a zoologist baseball fan would have felt the same about STEENBOK and AARON, two answers that completely mystified me.
@Lisa Try only the missing down letter; that should solve it IF you have all the missing downs correct. It's frustrating!
