At the very end I had "pause" for "phase" at 30 across ("temporary state") and sat for a good 15 minutes trying to understand why 31 & 32 down were so hard or vague and whatever 38 across was supposed to be. But then got it. Hard yes but I always accept that I won't quickly get all the sports or recent celebrity clues. Thank you Paul for a fun evening solve.
I enjoyed this one, there were some neat misdirects, congrats to S Prock for the debut. It's great to see J Chen around, I used to always read his x-word column/blog before he stopped writing it. I do have a question for the board--for the life of me I can't see why the answer to "Stop Right There!" is INN. Someone help? Thanks in advance.
@CaptainQuahog. I used to install shakes on roofs in Colorado. Then they were forbidden under updated building codes and disappeared.
@Sally. Ha ha I did too, and just figured that NWT was some insider thing on Wayne's World (the cross) that I did not know about.
