If you haven’t been to St. Lucia, you will find it to be one of the most dramatic Caribbean islands. Les Pitons, soaring remnants of a volcano are spectacular.
As a Peace Corps Volunteer in the Congo in the ‘70s, then known as Zaire, I travelled through Virunga National Park - clue 11D, many times . I was stunned and thrilled to see Virunga, considered one of the most spectacular and remote African parks, in the NTY Crossword. I’d love to know what connection Mr. Deeney has to Virunga.
As a former Peace Corps Volunteer in Zaire (12 Down) I was pleased to see the second mention of that wonderful country - Sight seen in Virunga National Park, clued last week - in the Crossword. When I got my invitation letter to go to Zaire, I had no idea where it was. Where’s Zaire ? I asked everyone. Of course, no one knew it was the new name for the Congo.
@Joe Deeney I was hoping you had visited Virunga. With its 14,000 foot active volcanoes and the last large population of mountain gorillas, hence the clue, it is the oldest national park in Africa, established by the Belgians a 100 years ago. Kudos to that someone on the editorial team.
@Barry Ancona About 99% of them. Loosen up.
@Ken S Okay, I give up. I don’t see any Larry Bird clue in this puzzle. It’s true Larry wasn’t a dunker, no you can’t even call him a stuffer. However, it would be helpful to mention which puzzle the clue was in. Also, I agree that Captain Q and Barry are on the All Star Defensive Crossword comment team.
@Barry Ancona Jane knows what she is saying. You, on the other hand ….
