Anyone else find the SHTETL/EMIL/SETI crossing challenging? No? Just me? Seems there's a general consensus that this puzzle should have been a Wednesday. I, for one, was happy to have a slightly zippier than normal Thursday puzzle at my fingertips. And who doesn't love an emu spotting? Favorite clue: toss up between 15A and 57A, the latter of which I filled in on my first pass. Consistent solving is certainly improving my reaction time on those question mark clues. Happy solving to all!

@Cat Lady Margaret I love your comment! One of my favorite TV shows to watch in high school was Gilmore Girls. In one episode, the brainy teenage daughter Rory explains to her mother Lorelai that the plural of cul-de-sac is culs-de-sac. Lorelai is flabbergasted by this information and proceeds to pluralize every word this way. Rooms-mate, recycs-lable, etc. Still makes me laugh. And I prefer to use recycs-lable over recyclables still. (fun bonus -- I first learned the term "meet cute" in another Gilmore Girls ep. Sometimes these puzzles feel as though they have special tidbits just for me...)

@MP Rogers I believe the crossword is released at 10pm local NYC time the night before puzzle day, which would mean 3am UK time. As for completing a puzzle to maintain a streak - I have completed a few in the early morning hours of the following day and still gotten the gold star... I'm not sure what the exact cutoff time is though unfortunately. Good luck!
