This was so much fun! The puzzle and constructor's notes were A-one
I was so stuck on "Vent" for blow off steam and irks/ires. It took deleting ''I'm sure I'm right" answers to see the possibilities and correct answers.
I'm perplexed by all the comments saying this was easier than Friday. I found this Saturday 1000% harder than Friday's. dead language crossing opera, rare military abbreviation crossing foreign language, weird abbreviation crossing Greek mythology??? Yesterday's had mostly ordinary words. The progression from Friday seemed right to me.
This took me almost twice as long as a regular Wednesday. I didn't find the theme particularly clever or special and almost decided it wasn't with the time to complete it. But then I did complete it and I still don't think it was worth it. It felt like a Thursday in clueing without the satisfying intrigue of a Thursday puzzle.
@Jenny You are brilliant! Any time a Friday or Thursday puzzle is completed, I say, "Job well done!"
@Dave What do you mean by niche cultural signifier''? There's Italian, a Jewish god, an author, more religious stuff with Joel, and an actor in this puzzle that are all cultural, I didn't know at all and was only able to obtain through crossings. Not to mention a Japanese poem, Greek mythology...
Loved this. Cute theme and funny clues.
I couldn't figure out what was missing, and had to reveal to get vole instead of mole. I didn't know what imf could be, but my brain wouldn't let me consider anything other than mole. oh well.
Question - How does stadium sales become GATE? I could see seats or tickets. What am I missing about gate?
@Eva H. You can be poor, with no running water, and have privilege over someone else who is poor, with no running water, in a group historically discriminated against.
@Reuben yes, that was my last square. Ran the alphabet
People say Friday's puzzle was too hard and Saturday's is too easy. They both took me about the same time, just over an hour. Does that mean that folks were wrong or right??
@Allen Me too! It was the one thing I needed to fix, and it took me about 30 minutes to find it. But, to be, fair, who uses buckaroo or buckeroo? Not exactly what one goes about spelling in day-to-day life.
