For now on, whenever I see someone crispy on the beach I’m going to assume they’re there to GET SATAN.
@Ryan JAKE crossed with JAPE is a bit much. I could’ve been there for days.
Great puzzle. Not the hardest, not the easiest, and the perfect amount of clever. Favorite one in a long time.
@Kate Tani I don’t think I’d ever seen the word before today. And while not an expert about Japanese cuisine, I’m at least familiar.
Bravo. Most fun I’ve had in a crossword in a long time. Got the revealer early enough to help with all 8 clues, yet they were still tough even with that knowledge. Nice mix of clue difficulty (not too easy to make the revealer superfluous, not too hard to make it impossible) and cleverness on the theme.
18 across. Often censored. 6 letters. Starts with NI. I was worried for a minute!
@Tony now I’m even more mad. Grrrr. Thank you. I came to the comments just to see if anyone was as perplexed as I. I think switching an O to the A was the final piece of my puzzle today. Longest it’s taken me in a while.
Bravo. That theme and the revealer were marvelous. Worth the effort to uncover the puzzle.
I was so sure it was FEARLESSLENDERS and thought it was a perfectly coined phrase. Alas but the N was an A.
@Steve L I’m proudest of getting the Woodstock clue on first pass, just guessing it was a misdirection and the answer fit.
@Audrey today was my fastest Friday ever. Didn’t feel easy, because I never got stuck. Seems like the type of puzzle where vets will breeze through and rooks can’t figure out why. So seems to me you are improving, even if todays puzzle was easier than most.
I went from heros to ZEROS to end this one. Tough one, since either word works there, and I’m not familiar with those northwest natives. If I had a second mistake elsewhere I might have looking a long time.
This took as long as every Friday, very challenging but clearly achievable with persistence. I had TOMB early but couldn’t get it to work. I’d eventually the middle top I practically started over, and buried in the middle was the key to the whole thing, somehow revived. Enjoyable struggle. Perfect puzzling.
@Jeff G all the down clues are written correctly for me, no rebus or swap required.
@Matthew S. I mean that’s ok. I, on the other hand, registered a jaunty 11:27.
@Solomon how many states start with B would have been a more accurate clue. Got me too, eventually I switched to NONE when a cross didn’t work with ZERO.
@Patrick J. I get that, but in the answer key it has the stolen painting as a rebus. How am I supposed to enter it?
