@Marshall Walthew I was also reluctant to give in to RICE as an alternative to birdseed, having been told long ago that rice is bad for birds. TIL that it's not true, which makes me happy. I'll take my happiness where I can find it, these days.
Regarding EARLAP... Does anyone else remember Walter Mattthau saying this to Glenda Jackson in 'House Calls' [1978]---"Up yours, with ear laps". I thought that was the funniest thing, for some reason, but when I rewatched the movie a few years ago, it wasn't in there. Maybe I'm remembering the wrong movie.....
