@Connor then you should be aware that traditionally, the Thursday puzzle almost ALWAYS breaks the rules of crosswords. That's the whole point, and that's what makes it fun. If you don't like those kinds of puzzles, just don't solve Thursdays. 🤷‍♀️

@Bob I'll add to the chorus of folks easily contradicting all the incorrect things you said by mentioning that Dan is by no means a new constructor. He's had several puzzles published already. I get if you're frustrated, but it's worth doing a little bit of research before blithely making confident claims regarding things about which you're not actually informed.

I'll add my voice to what I'm sure is a chorus of musicians on here pointing out that "legato" is not, ever, a noun. (In English or in Italian!) It's flat-out incorrect to imply otherwise. Given that the NYT puzzle, in the Age of Shortz, prides itself (rightly) on its accuracy and clarity, this is shouldn't have been accepted.
