Had nothing but YALE, but then got a foothold with ICONOCLAST, then SPEED CHESS. Great puzzle that seemed impossible until it wasn’t.

Southwest corner was one of those “I know I have something wrong, but hell if I know what it is” corners. Worked through CLOT (for a long time) and BLOB for 50D, QUEER IDEOLOGY for 46A and therefore DICEY for 48D, BLAST for 58A, PEEP AT for 44D, and ELISE for 49D. And too much basketball in my brain to meld my brain to the right 50A answer.

Also wondered for some time if 25A was going to be OSSU since the last two letters of 10D just had to be UP. As an Italian speaker that was not the case. 😀

@Dave agree - that one had me stumped forever, especially since I had “QUEER IDEOLOGY” and “DICEY” for 46A and 48D respectively. Painful but brilliant.
