I haven't had to throw in the towel on a puzzle in a long time!! The lack of a pattern to the themed black boxes was super confusing to me. Also I live in San Diego and didn't even get LA MESA right away - La Mesa is its own city. It's got a mayor and everything.
@Dan agree!! I had LO for a while before TOXICGAS solved it, because I never would have thought of LOX as a latke topping. Might as well have been HAM ;)
I loved those themed clues, Mason!! If you have more of them that you weren't able to use in the puzzle, please share :)
@Lynn I love this sequence of comments. Oh, the weird and wonderful rabbit holes NYT Crosswords have taken me down!!
@Amy K Me too! This is the first time I've been moved to comment on a puzzle article. That was so delightful.
@Dave ohhhh I didn't even get till I read your comment!
This puzzle took me 6:10 longer than my average, and I am very happy about it. That was an elegant one! Monday, but make it classy.
Loved it. Getting MOVIETRAILERS just with the E and the last R made me feel like a SUPERHERO
@JohnWM Hear that, Kevin Curry? You're hired for Tuesdays. And Mondays if you want 'em.
Comment threads like these make me proud to be a Puzzler. I also love mangos!
@Barry Ancona wait so is a SEE not necessarily in the SEE? That is needlessly confusing.
@Dan Collins every time this happens to me, I try to absorb the lesson to apply to the rest of life: It feels impossible until it doesn't! NYT Games are my grit workout.
Loved it. Very satisfying challenge. Yellowish canines with Lab access point. TAXDODGES. PINKYSWEARS. So good!
