Loved this! My 16 year old daughter and I do the Sunday crossword together every week. She was the one who figured out the "Ship Out" part of the theme, I got the "Shape up". She is invaluable with OMGYES and song titles, I get the American clues since she moved to Aus when she was six. We both decided we didn't have enough testosterone to get the CHESTBUMP quickly.
Thank goodness my 17-year old was solving with me. I had no idea what a boss fight was, and I missed the 'vape' clue completely. On her end, "What's a canoodle?"
@JoPa, the only thing I can think that sensitive Marko is upset about is the answer in 77A. Interesting how upset they are NOT about 45A. To Marko - naming places isn't tone deaf, it's just geography.
The 17 year old and I enjoyed this one and set a personal record for a Sunday puzzle. A nice distraction for her as she enters her swotvac (there's a future clue for someone!).
@Andrzej , even though I grew up in the US, I still struggle. Lately I've been doing them with my 16 year old daughter, who gets all the young-people references!
@Becca I found DIET okay because I'm a history nerd, and ICEHOLE because I grew up in Minnesota! NECCO I've heard of, but that one and NOTELET I found by finding all the connecting words, shrugged, and said, "I guess that looks okay."
@Steve L, we down under prefer more descriptive, yet cryptic terms!
@Bruce there was 73 Down, but that's why I like solving with my 17 year old.
