@Andrzej the musical, the sound of music has a song where it is made much more clear. DO - a deer, a female deer RE - a drop of golden sun MI - a name, I call myself FA - a long long way to run SO - a needle pulling thread LA - a note to follow SO TI - a drink with jam and bread That will bring us back to do Doe! - a deer, a female deer
@Andrzej in English leaving nothing behind also means taking everything.
@Kerri different animals. A liger is a male lion while a TIGON is a male tiger.
@TMD a steamer is used while the clothed are hanging up, it doesn't press them like an iron does (which also does use steam) if you look up clothes steamer you can see the difference
A fun and somewhat tricky Tuesday puzzle. Made trickier by the error at 39 ACROSS. The native language of Galicia is Galician and gold in Galician is OURO not ORO. Otherwise a fun solve.
@Steve now I'm sure there's some obscure town on Missouri where they call getting tan "fetching the devil"
@Steve L going to have to agree with Wayne and disagree with you here. Malt is not a grain it's a grain there's been malted. It's like a clue saying "animal served with eggs at breakfast"and the answer being bacon. Bacon is pig and pig is an animal but bacon isn't an animal.
@Brannon OTOH. On the other hand. A shortening of a hedging statement.
@Jay Tucker Des is also the plural of un or une. Quelque translates more like a few. It's used in writing but not as much speech
@Janine that was the last one to click into place for me.
@Steve L it may be one of the official languages but it is not the native language. The only native language of Galicia is Galician. English is an official language of India but "late meal in lahore" as DINNER would be just as wrong.
@Evan maybe for a Tuesday or Wednesday. But this a Friday puzzle. Some misdirection is expected. I wouldn't call it a huge stretch to refer to wow as an rpg.
