@dutchiris Thank you for this. This comment section is full of lovely people and lovely comments. But I'm often disappointed by the number of folks who seem to forget that crossword constructors are, like, actual human beings who put in a great deal of effort to make something purely for our entertainment and enjoyment.
@John Do you believe every puzzle is constructed by the same person? Exactly who was being lazy here, and what should they have done differently?
@Marie Italian speaker here. I totally agree. I had the puzzle completed but because of COTTo / HIYo I couldn't get the music. It drove me crazy and added many minutes to what would have been a very low Thursday time for me. Grrr.
My personal ritual at the start of a puzzle is to go through the downs before hitting the acrosses, and boy did that do me no favours today! As I got to the bottom with far fewer entry points than normal, I seriously asked myself whether I got enough sleep last night! Once I figured out the trick, it was smooth sailing and a lot of fun. And I immediately knew I'd be heading straight here after finishing, to write this message yes, but also to pull out the metaphorical popcorn as I fully expected a ton of salty responses. Folks did not fail me. 🍿
Hey Deb, That jaywalking commercial is burned into my brain from my childhood in NY. As soon as I solved that clue, my head was filled with the voices of the two girls jumping double Dutch and chanting "cross at the green, not in between". I haven't thought of that in a million years. Brains sure are weird.
Knowing this comment section, I'm sure it's already come up, but in case it hasn't: The new design for the stats area of the iPhone app is nice. But honestly, one of the best bits about the old version was the ability to see average/best/current scores side-by-side, which provided a quick visual way to compare the current week's times to the average. Not only are they no longer side-by-side, but the interface changes the scale for each chart, so I can't even hold the length of one chart in my memory and switch to the other, because the scale changes. It looks slick, but it makes the information far less useful. I hope they consider adjusting it so that the aesthetics don't undermine the usefulness.
Absolutely delightful. Thank you for this one.
Before I made it from GOB… to GOBERSERK I spent some time feeling 🍌🤪 as well as🦇💩🤪. Gotta love how many euphemisms for going insane we have in English. 🙃 Great puzzle!
