Finished the puzzle, taking almost 5 minutes longer than my average (according to the stats when the jingle played). I didn’t love or hate it .. just meh. A couple of the pictured clues didn’t make sense. It felt like a slog towards the end. But it’s done.

Loved the 23 Down clueing: “Prez in the 60s”. Of course it’s LBJ, right? But then LIR for 23-across and JCYCLED at 28 across didn’t make any sense...

Excellent puzzle for MAY THE FOURTH. Got the revealer quickly, took longer to figure out it also was a rebus. I liked there were less pop culture references to look up than in other recent Sunday puzzles. Today ties my old consecutive streak of 224 days. Happy Star Wars Day!

Love the Sunday puzzles where figuring out the theme isn’t a struggle. The absolute best ones are solving without any hints from the blog. Today was that day. No complaints, just compliments to the constructor.

@Barry Ancona The clues that didn’t make sense: 29A/D: I kept trying to put ROAD in the clue 42A/46D: was the last one for me, after finally realizing the last letter for BACKSTA*. I needed Wordplay hints to fully understand the picture clues overall. As for Trump: like the 1963 movie, it’s a MAD MAD MAD WORLD. Or an early Tears for Fears song.

@HeathieJ Thanks for the tip! I ran into the same problem. I followed your advice: got rid of all the rebusses and just typed U where the rebusses were to go. Got the happy music and my streak continues …

What a workout today. Took 3 tries eyeing it over just to get the first clue. About 10 minutes into the puzzle, I clicked on the top right to see the constructor: Sam E. Then I prepared myself for the long haul. Putting it down several times, plus the Wordplay column and other lookups … it came together slowly but surely. Over on the Spelling Bee, getting to Genius was the opposite- that went smoothly and came quickly.
