@J bone really just a frustrating gimmick, and too US centric.

@Matt I dont really have another puzzle to compare, but I guess its just less satisfying if half the challenge is to remember or google all these american-isms about sport, politics or college life we don't have. With how separated NYT games is from the actual newspaper about New York, I don't think it's quite the same as expecting cheeseburgers in a Thai restaurant or whatever, but I get your point. I'd be interested to know the spread of NYT puzzle solvers around the world.
