Excellent, Mr. Mehta! This was an utterly enjoyable ride. Tricky cluing, many great entries, and few enough gimmes to fill in some unknown names, once again pointing out my painfully challenged knowledge of up-to-date pop culture trivia. Instead of "where's Waldo?" I had to ask "who's Upton O'Good'? More like this, please. RAWR...

Wallflowers, plus ceiling flowers and floor flowers for spatial effect. We already have 3D movies and surround sound, why not surround scent? 3D Smell-O-Vision -- what a concept! While all the fragrances are absolutely delightful individually, their mixture made me a little dizzy and brought on a slight background headache. I hope I'll live... if not, what a way to go!

@suejean, Thank you kindly. I do pop in occasionally to check on old friends, and am always delighted to see you. I rarely comment nowadays because you and a few others do it with such perspicacity, wit and sense of humour that mine becomes all but superfluous. Happy Mayflowers to you.

This is obviously a technical issue but I can't find a link to the correct mob of emus. Not that it matters much, but my streak of solves was stopped with Tuesday's puzzle due to a technical glitch at the NYT Games site. I finished the puzzle in respectable time and the happy tune played (as it did 696 times before), but going back to the Games page, I got CONTINUE on blue square instead of the usual REVIEW on ochre. Back I went to the puzzle to "continue," but the timer had stopped, and I couldn't erase or enter any letters because it was already solved correctly. In desperation I cleared the grid and solved it again. This time it was accepted as solved, but the emus must have decided that I was cheating and did not give me the usual ochre star, but a blue one instead. Thus my 696-day streak of successful solves ends, due to no fault of mine, with a pffft instead of a bang. Much like my subscription to NYT Games will.

Not being a daily commenter on Wordplay, I am sure I missed a notice, announcement or comments regarding the sudden departure of Will Shortz, replaced by Joel Fagliano since March 14. Does anyone know if this this a permanent arrangement, or just a well-deserved vacation for Mr. Shortz? So far Joel is doing just fine. Friday's and Saturday's were super challenging but very satisfying solves, today's was great fun.
