What another entertaining theme. Some might see this as a corny dad joke, but I saw it as very clever after I solved the revealer. I struggled with the top-right corner of the grid, but after studying what I wrote down and realized I was wrong, the rest was a breeze. Normally I haven't been able to fill in a Tuesday grid on my own. Is it possible that I am getting better at crosswords?
This was probably the most enjoyable puzzle I have ever solved! Definitely number one in my books. As soon as I solved the revealer and looked at the themed clues, I had to laugh out loud. Funny, cute and overall enjoyable. A few times I had to guess on entries and ended up being wrong. Good thing when I do my puzzles in the paper that I use pencil! Great way to start my morning. I loved it loved it loved it!
This was one of the easiest Monday crosswords that I have filled in. Normally I have to look at the answer key to figure out an answer. I spelled one entry wrong which threw me off for about 30 seconds. The bits of trivia were exciting to solve. Who knew that there is a Guinness record for assembling a Mr. Potato Head?! Overall this was an extremely fun crossword to do.
I usually have to look at the answer key for majority of the answers. This time, however, most of them I didn’t. At first I peeked in on the themed answers and tricky clues. Most I was able to fill in on my own before needing to look at the key near the end of the solve. This was possibly one of the most enjoyable puzzles I’ve solved. (Incidentally, I think it’s nice that the writer of today’s puzzle shares his subscription with his girlfriend for the Mini. What a sweet guy!)
Until I read the Wordplay column, I was confused about the theme. When I read the Roman numeral part, I was like “Wait a minute. These are movie sequels!” I grew up watching Home Alone 2 and I’ve seen the sequel to Sister Act at least once. Today’s puzzle was definitely a bit trickier than Monday and Tuesday, but I still enjoyed it very much. I definitely agree with the writer of today’s article about being kind about the solving ability of others. I often have to use the answer key to fill in answers but I’m not competing in competitions. I’m doing these puzzles for fun. That’s what it’s all about: fun!
A good portion of the puzzle was filled in before I had to resort to the answer key. I should have known the answer to 19-D, which I misread the clue at first. (The Pats are my team!) The theme itself was very clever. Might be tricky if you don’t understand Roman numerals. Congratulations on the debut puzzle to the constructor!
One of the easiest puzzles I have filled in. It took me half a second to understand the starred clues. When I looked at the clue about the “STONE AGE” and looked at the revealer, it all clicked. A lot of the solutions were filled in from crossing clues. Overall a very enjoyable Monday puzzle that requires no cheats from me at all.
An enjoyable and very breezy Monday puzzle! It took me a second or two to figure out the themed clues as well as the revealer. Once I did figure out the revealer, I couldn’t help but laugh out loud. I thoroughly enjoyed some of the pop culture clues (I grew up playing the PlayStation 1 as well as watching The Jungle Book). I was getting to the end and I thought I’d have to look at the key, but then closely studying the last few clues got me the answers I needed! (I am referring to the bottom left hand section of the puzzle.) Hats off to today’s constructor for a breezy Monday crossword that was extremely fun to solve!
This was one of the top easiest puzzles for me! My last clue I had to fill in was 55-A. I thought BESMIRCH looked funny but when I entered the puzzle into my Games app, it was correct! I loved all the pop culture clues and was pleased with the theme. Hats off to today’s constructor!
As I was filling in this puzzle, this didn’t feel like a Tuesday puzzle. This felt like a Monday puzzle and yesterday felt like a Tuesday. I must be getting better at these. An enjoyable theme and me guessing on some answers which turned out to be correct. I had no idea an opossum was a marsupial.
This was quite the enjoyable puzzle. I had a few “a-ha moments” when trying to figure out certain clues, such as “Wrangler on the road” clue at 19-across. Same thing with 10-Down “Cuban rum cocktail”. Incidentally I agree with the editor of today’s article. I prefer to do my puzzles on print with a pen.
Reading through a good portion of clues, I had no idea what the answers were. After I got started, I was able to use some of the letters to formulate the answers I needed. This is one of the rare puzzles where I didn’t have to look at the answer key. The theme was very clever, as I enjoyed finding the names of famous singers in the circles boxes. Once I got going this was an extremely easy and enjoyable puzzle.
This puzzle was very approachable for me to which I thoroughly enjoyed it! It took crossing entries to solve most of it. I had put it down, went to work and picked it back up after coming home. Some of the entries I literally took a guess and they ended up being right! This should’ve counted as a Monday puzzle and not a Wednesday!
It took me awhile to figure out the revealer. After staring at nearby letters, it finally “clicked”! The last few clues I literally had to take a guess, such as 27-A and 23-D. A nice way to start the week. :)
@Tara I struggled to figure out the theme. I only knew a handful of the clues at first, such as the clues about the CDC and Bob Ross’s hairstyle. Maybe it would have worked as a Wednesday puzzle.
