The plot twist waiting in the revealer completely shifted the tone of this puzzle. A delight! The beauty of this particular catch phrase being "in the language" for three decades is that it isn't something we've integrated while the origin fades from the context. It's maintained it's originality so succinctly that we all heard Jerry's voice utter this salutation through audibly gritted teeth the moment it clicked. (Although admittedly when I initially saw "Seinfeld catch phrase" in the clue my first instinct was to wonder how I was going to fit "king of my domain" into the spaces provided. That's another puzzle idea for another day, I suppose!)
@Jerry I also find days like IWD, Mother's Day, and people generally praising their parents for raising them so well to be complicated. I'm a mother myself, and I have struggled with teaching my sons how to celebrate and honor me on Mother's Day when I associate toxic behavior with the concept. IWD wasn't something I knew about until a few years ago. It's absolutely on my calendar now. It's especially important because I do believe that the role of motherhood is so much more than I got to experience as a daughter. And women's contributions to society extend far beyond motherhood. The invitation here is to consider how women around the globe navigate challenges in their culture as well as how they are represented, educated, and honored. The names of the women that would be written on a list of a hundred are simply the ones who shaped stories. The day itself is one of reflection and expansion. Think of it that way. It's a celebration to some extent, but it's truly an invitation at the heart of it.
@Debra King Sounds like you are really passionate about crafting puzzles. Let us know when yours drops!
@Francis I *knew* that wasn't the right title! I didn't put too much thought into it once it occurred to me how very unlikely it was that the constructors and I were on the same wavelength. But now I'm realizing why "master" makes SO much more sense! (And congrats on the *ahem* win)
@Grumpy Dad? Is that you? Listen, the program was marketed as a show about nothing. That description has stood the rest of time. (Read: it is absolutely not for everyone.) As a teenager in a one tv household, I had to enjoy it when I could because my parents hated it. So I happily support your demand for exclusion from categorization that my original comment imposed on the entire population of the puzzle community at large. I can only assume that you read "Hello, new man" as the revealer and enjoyed how it wrapped up the theme void of imagery of Jerry Seinfeld with a white turtleneck, denim button-down, and limited acting skills fighting to hold a scowl when he delivered that iconic line. Meanwhile, I have to admit that I wrote that just waiting for someone to come along with such a disclaimer. "Cancelled over 25 years ago" doesn't accurately describe the circumstances of its wrap and fails capture its impact on pop culture - whether that impact produces a snicker or an eyeroll as it emerges "in the language."
@Francis The correction was fully embraced for both the integrity of the reference and the laugh that I got out of it. I did fail to congratulate you on the win you shared! I have never participated in such a contest, but I can confidently assert that my competitors wouldn't stand a chance. 😆
@Anthony 45 million minus the 175 of those who were killed in the process? No one starts wars to liberate women.
