@LB chiming in to say I also haven't watched Star Trek in my entire life - films or TV shows - and still managed to complete it with no hints. Once a few crosses were solved on the long downward theme entries, the sentences themselves were straightforward enough to just guess outright. I'd recommend you have another crack as it's a lovely puzzle :)
