Any puzzle that fits in both KALAMAZOO and TAOISEACH is good in my book. Points for FAMOUS POTATOES as an excellent misleader and for remembering the great Maria TALLCHIEF (although I would clue her differently). One could take issue with USHES, but easy enough to figure out. I would call this one reasonably challenging for a Saturday morning and thus a good workout.
@Eric Hougland Irish here, and it's phonetically pretty difficult to write down. Let's go with tea shusch but you have to roll the end in a peculiarly Irish way :)
Some of these clues are kind of off, like SHINE ON and AGILE, but major points for DEAD BATTERY and SLICED BREAD.
@kilaueabart "Bokeh" as a transliteration is usually credited to a 1997 article in "Photo Technique" magazine. The writers have indeed said they spelled it that way to make the pronunciation clear. For us photographers, it's a very common term.
@Desert Dweller It's a stretch (and, to be honest, "Bessie" is extremely anachronistic; "Libby" almost as much so). I believe the modern defaults are Liz/Lizzie/Lizzy, Betsy, and Beth, with the also anachronistic Betty still hanging about. Still.... somewhere out there, there will be an Elizabeth called Elly/Eli. It's more getting Jocko or Jax out of John than it is getting Sid.
@CaptainQuahog Perhaps the scruple?
@Helen Wright truth, this one should have been left on the pile - the same pile where Wordle should have put CRONE.
@CalGal It was "Don't Worry *Kyoko*, Mummy's Only Looking for a Hand in the Snow" and the A-side was "Cold Turkey". Actually an important record, and I wish I'd been alive to own it!
@Barbie Yep! Snatched means tight, or perfected, basically (started from a "snatched waist" or "snatched body" and now extends to other perfected things).
@Patrick It's CULT HERO...
Would love to know the debuts! RAGE ROOM?
