I agree with Comet, below. This was too arcane to be enjoyable.

Thank you, Mr Ayass, for and clever and fun puzzle. Getting those 2 qualities together in 1 puzzle makes rare and well done!

@Francis. Hi Francis - I was searching for anyway to qvetch about this puzzle, which I thought was pretty dull, but your last sentence hit the nail on the head. I’m pretty grumpy too, for the same reason. All the well meaning columnists end with: You are not alone. But sharing my grumpiness with you about this dumb puzzle felt just right. Thank you!

One of those Sunday puzzles, where most was enjoyably challenging, but some of it required being able to read the constructor’s mind. That’s not fun.

I didn’t hate this puzzle but I certainly didn’t enjoy it. With clues like those provided here, I often feel like I have to be a mind reader, which I am not. A clever idea in need of better clues.

@Jay My guess, Jay, is that you didn’t grow up in the 1950s. “Blue” was an adjective used before “pornographic” became a more common descriptor.

What does “atoz” (10 across) mean?
