@Francis. Hi Francis - I was searching for anyway to qvetch about this puzzle, which I thought was pretty dull, but your last sentence hit the nail on the head. I’m pretty grumpy too, for the same reason. All the well meaning columnists end with: You are not alone. But sharing my grumpiness with you about this dumb puzzle felt just right. Thank you!
One of those Sunday puzzles, where most was enjoyably challenging, but some of it required being able to read the constructor’s mind. That’s not fun.
All I have to say is, Really? I have read the NYT for 40 yrs, and played the crossword since retirement. I have never played video games because I was too busy earning a living. I know the NYT is trying to attract younger readers, and I have sympathy for that. But PLEASE wait for we baby boomers to die before you give us another puzzle like this.
I didn’t hate this puzzle but I certainly didn’t enjoy it. With clues like those provided here, I often feel like I have to be a mind reader, which I am not. A clever idea in need of better clues.
@Jeff P. I’m with you, pal. To me, this puzzle fell into the category of needing to read the constructor’s mind, which isn’t particularly enjoyable.
@Jay My guess, Jay, is that you didn’t grow up in the 1950s. “Blue” was an adjective used before “pornographic” became a more common descriptor.
