I suggest a rule (or policy) by the Editors to avoid having a square that comes from two pieces of trivia, such as proper names, especially if the trivia is somewhat obscure. I didn't know either 70A (STEWIE) or 71D (ERIVO), and couldn't get their shared letter (E) without using the internet to get the answers, and I prefer to avoid that.
When I looked at this on my computer, and then printed it, there was no highlighting of clue numbers, as described in the column.
i do my puzzles by going to https://www.nytimes.com/crosswords, hitting the PRINT icon, and printing them out. But with the Oct 2 puzzle, I learned from reading Wordplay that there were numbers in certain black squares that told the solver “how many bombs they are adjacent to.” These numbers did not appear in my printed version. (I solved the puzzle anyway, but this omission is not fair.)
