4 spanners with that theme is very impressive, this will be a top contender for crossword of the year. No overly tricky clues, obscure tricia or excessive crosswordese. Just a fun puzzle
Okay sorry, but it was Uncle Ben, not Spider-Man
Both hall and oat but not crossing is a shame
Not a huge fan of this Tuesday. Kind of hard with obscure trivia
SERIAL COMMA instead of OXFORD COMMA is annoying ):
Without a revealer, the theme doesn't really work in my opinion, there's nothing to really signify that these clues should be read backwards. And isn't it shiva? Idk not a fan of this one, too much esoteric trivia with a lame theme
42 across with "See 50 down" as some obscure reference to the Mafia while crossing NIK (as in neatnik???) and KAOS (More obscure trivia) was definitely not my favorite to fill out the center, basically had to just guess at the end there
Crochet does not use needles
I like a challenge, but this was too trivia heavy on the older end for me. Not a fan
@Wade H And without a ton of crosswordese and 4 spanners. Extremely clever and well made puzzle
Yeah idk, I'm not a huge fan of this theme. It's not terribly difficult, but it's also not terribly clever imo, more tedious of anything
Obscure trivia puzzles are by far my least favorite
This was easy, but the theme is way too much of a stretch for my brain. Clever I guess, I still barely understand it
All-time best time for me on this one, 6:19. Even beat my best Monday time
@Nat K I think my main issue with it is that either the answers should make it obvious that something is reversed OR there should be a revealer. I'm not upset that it was hard (though there was too much random trivia more suited for an academic bowl than a crossword in it for my taste), I think it was just a bad puzzle with a lame theme that doesn't really work
Yeah for a Tuesday this was insanely hard? This felt more like a Thursday or Friday puzzle
@Marshall Walthew how do you feel about hall and oates, cause they happen to squeeze in there too lol
Red Wine Supernova is not a record, it's a single off of the record, you should fix that error.
@NY he was, but it was a cut scene, he originally didn't appear til return as a puppet
KNOCKs are spoken all the time, haven't you ever heard a joke before?
20A is not a good clue, most people aren't going to get that
Not a very relaxing or enjoyable Tuesday imo, more of a Wednesday or even an easy Thursday puzzle
Yeah this puzzle wasn't it, the clues and answers weren't making a whole lot of sense imo. Felt obtuse
Etoile and edam is rough, never heard of either );
@Lynn yeah I don't buy that. I'm sure some of these squares are easy for some but ocelo and galois are not common in the least bit. You can have clever puzzles without resorting to obscure trivia like this one did. Hope NYT passes on this guy in the future. Not a remotely fun or clever puzzles imo. I'm sure some enjoyed it
@Dan constructor felt the need to flex his obscure trivia muscle ig
@Neil not only French, but ones this one is basically unsolvable unless you know French, otherwise you're going to assume it is the planet.
