@Steve Or, on the same theme, Q: Lawmakers gone awry? A: Constitution Prostitution
I thought it was "Doc Martens," vs "Dr. Martens," and this gave me some hesitation. Otherwise it was a fun puzzle. My Dad always humorously called our local skating arena a "skating ring," as opposed to a "skating rink."
I never did find D'Artagnan, Porthos, Aramis, or Athos anywhere in the solved puzzle- oh well.. "emu handler"
Alternate clue for 83 across: “Fetch the devil!” Hehe
At some point, I noticed the Saturday puzzles are more challenging because many of the answers are phrases, usually two words in length; knowing this makes the solution easier. If I counted correctly, todays puzzle has 11 phrases across and 10 down..
@Jon I had a five year streak of Sundays broken by a bug in the NYT puzzle app- I moped as you for a while, but ultimately it was a liberating experience! No more nerve wracking compulsion to complete every puzzle on time!
As a New England expat I enjoy Robert Frost works, especially "The Road Not Taken," although "Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening" is also enjoyable. So, the puzzle was an enjoyable challenge..
Mare for “dark side of the moon” is questionable- mare comes from the Latin for sea, but it is used to refer to dark plains of the moon, not an entire lunar hemisphere. Ironically, my last fill was “plasma” tv, and My Phd advisor was a co-inventor of the plasma panel!
Ironically, the first fill I got was “no me gusto,” porque me gusta el crucigrama! Buenas noches..
The theme was of no help to me in completing the puzzle, but I could have discovered the puzzle's theme quickly if only I could wreck a nice beach.
@Fact Boy Lots of rotating tools still use left-hand threads to prevent various parts from spinning off and causing mayhem, like the nut to attach a saw blade, etc.
Don't know why it's always my third guess- Go Berserk. Go Bonkers. Go Bananas! Nice challenge though-
I was surprised that there were two loops per theme answer- and the directions changed, first answer an “up” loop, then a “down“ loop, the next reversed to down and up, and the third as the first- interesting symmetry. “We need symmetry for life itself.”
Got waylaid by guessing "irene" before "renee," "unseen" before "inside," "lan" before "eta," etc. but managed to finish below my average time..
In the same vein.. Q: Getting rid of a few laws? A: Congress Progress Nice to see Lynn as an answer, the birthplace to many of my extended family..
I had the heart to sail through this puzzle with zeal, and without going in endless loops; it wasn't anticlimactic! Steve at 10:29 PM on Friday night.
Oh oh- I got stuck on “kid rapper,” whom I thought was Codi, not Cudi, uh oh….
It cost mucho bred and required the employment of masterful sience and husle to complete this puzzle, but dam, faint praise and gitar licks were not forthcoming!
If it makes anyone feel better, my snail pace like time was 16min, mainly due to going down a dead end with the answer "no no no" instead of "so done!" Or maybe it's too close to my sleepy time..
Well, I liked it- took me about 29 minutes of mulling with scattered entries all around the grid, then suddenly everything fell into place like dominoes! Lots of proper names is reminiscent of early NYT puzzles..
Like others experience, all quadrants filled rapidly, then I got stuck on SE mainly due to a preoccupation with the answers "cloud line," and "cloud pack." Duh - it's "cloud bank."
Five EZ pieces is a head scratcher...
Quick solve for me (14 minutes), but I still don't get how "where f comes before e" and CAR connection.. emu emu emu
Underlines appeared in the Windows PC version..
