My commitment to OSTEO nearly killed the patient but I ultimately prevailed and scored a W, which is always nice. I thought the puzzle was solid, if quaint, but all in all well within bounds.

I was like “mare’s nest?” I finished the puzzle without solving for that particular clue. I am going to use that expression three times.

Faster than average solve. Didn’t get the theme till I read Wordplay but that didn’t make it any less fun. Great Thursday puzzle, IMHO. All this griping about chants/chance. It has never been true that the clue must always work rather only that it can work in some or any cases. Chants and chance can be homonyms but are not necessarily always. To me, that is part of the fun of the best puzzles.

I enjoy puzzles that are deliberately, unapologetically obfuscatory. Kinda the point innit?

Just my jam. My first pass through the acrosses yielded a distressingly blank grid. The downs helped but had to kick it up a notch to complete. There were for me a number of “Ah,ok” moments, that being one. A nice way to slide into Saturday morning after an hour finishing yesterday’s grueling Spelling Bee.

Fun Saturday puzzle. I despaired first time through. Had it not been for my love of Indian cuisine, I’d have been lost.

And this one is just right.

It doesn’t have to be about fathers to be a nice Father’s Day gift. Thanks to all those responsible.

Pleasantly surprised get a star first time through. Like some others missed the clever O/C gimmick till I read the column. High marks to the creators.

Fun!

I enjoyed the puzzle but was left feeling unfulfilled. We watched The Prestige last night so when I finished today’s grid I felt I had gotten the promise and the turn but not the final reveal, the “prestige,” that tied everything together and left me in awe and wonder. I enjoyed what I got, but wish the greyed squares had figured back in—in some clever way—as if pulled from a hat.

Uh oh, sounds like somebody’s got a case of the Mondays.
