Missed opportunity to clue 38D as "Just remember _______ when you spell the man's name" to atone for a recent error regarding MF DOOM. I understand the style guide and all that, just had to poke some fun :)
This one went along smoothly. Helped that the spanners came to me easily. Really liked those and they seemed to fit together, made this kind of a 'themed themeless' puzzle for me. Very good, bravo.
Big shoutout to Nardwaur ("The Human Serviette") because I would have never heard of that word otherwise. I know how that nickname sounds, so I must assure you it's nothing dirty! He does fantastic interviews, mostly with musicians. It's all on Youtube and worth a watch. So yeah, getting the SERVIETTES/SPANAKOPITA off the rip was cool to see and really helped fill this thing out. Got stuck on a few archaic words, a couple wrong squares didn't help either, but still very fun solve for a Saturday.
@Bruce Funny enough, this was the one square I had to look up as well and I worked there for 5 years.
Add me to the Sunday PB club. And that was while being distracted by the Olympics and having to do a little typo hunting. Nothing wrong with an easier Sunday though, that was a fun one.
Appreciate the constructor notes on this one; Ocala came to me quickly having just driven to FL from Chicago, something we did a few times when I was a kid. Road tripping with my mom brought back some memories for sure. Had a visit to Sanibel planned too, but it turned into a day of beach-hopping further north. I'll get there some day. Great puzzle on the whole, the POLKADOTS/ARGYLE crosser plus the cluing is fantastic, and really nice spanners. Always like opening a puzzle and seeing it's a Katie Hoody joint.
@Kevin I was thinking the same thing while solving. Seems the downs went on/off instead of sticking with left/right
@Bill No, that guy's name is spelled Pederson
@J Walker Agreed. Came here to say this.
@Jennene I am totally into the concept but find it impractical to actually drink a beer while showering. Cracking open a beer to drink before/after the shower is marvelous if that still counts.
