@Bill Crandall Columbus thought he had landed in the garden of Eden. Remove the AB from 'Baby talk' = 'By talk' = Orally. Remove the AB from 'absent' = 'they might be marked as sent' = Emails. Really not "too clever by half" at all. You just didn't understand the theme, and that's okay.
Too many abbreviations, American specific / trivia in general for me to enjoy this one personally. Ah well Shout out to Pho-Nomenal though. Fantastic name for a Pho restaurant.
What a fun puzzle. Helps it's my first time ever completing a Friday puzzle with zero help from the article / Google, all in under 50 minutes. Great feeling! Thank you constructor
Didn't bother trying to finish this one, for many of the reasons already listed by other international commenters. Not sure how this one got through editing but here we are.
@Dru I got stuck here because Britishism didn't fit, Britspeak did though so threw me off for a while
Where is Eddie to say he didn't 'done did this puzz'?? I need to feel better about how much I struggled with this one. Needed the article and some look ups for proper nouns, even then needed auto check to finish, brutal
First time commentating but wanted to say I thoroughly enjoyed this crossword and got a good laugh out of the revealer. When I eventually got it right that is, on my first pass I very confidently entered signature cocktail which tripped me up for a while *facepalm or should I say *headdesk?
I thoroughly enjoyed this puzzle. Surprised to see so many complain about the toughness, I found it straightforward enough. Maybe helps I'm a 30 something, terminally online millennial so a lot of the clues were gimmies. Fun though!
Interesting to see people say this puzzle is a lot easier than yesterday's. I found yesterday's to be fairly straightforward but today was harder for me than some Fridays.
Realised what was happening halfway through the puzzle. Hated it. Clicked reveal puzzle & moving on with my day.
@Eric Hougland Pardon my ignorance, but after reading Sam's column the constructor's pronouns are he / they.. is Mr. not correct in this instance given the use of the he pronoun? Also, what does Mx. stand for? TIA
Had to use check puzzle on a Tuesday, couldn't work out where I went wrong. My first thoughts were SHO or ARO were wrong, but after running the alphabet for both, no joy Turns out RULE for 1A was wrong making 2D URIOLE, looks just as plausible as ORIOLE Speaking rule and supporting rule kinda make sense? Unless I'm just coping really hard. Fun puzzle otherwise!
@sotto voce Keep Looking Up!
The crosses of LPGA / PROAM, LOTSA / ASTIN (initially had lotta, couldn't work out what was wrong) and OSKAR / ARTIE / IOWAN were painful for me personally..
I was not on the same wavelength as the constructor at all. 2.5x my average. ONhAnd for 5D slowed me down a lot, so much so I even contemplated a Monday rebus for a sec o.O
The crossing of 10A and 12D was an unknown error for me until I checked the article, couldn't work out where I had went wrong. I had oNMIND making the across ELoS which was just as plausible as ELIS.
@Devid No but I had rye thinking of a sourdough starter
@Ciarán Exact same problem here too, thanks for the assist
