100 DAY STREAK!!! ππππππππππ Proud (and embarrassed) to say this is one of my finest accomplishments. Going for 365!
I can't believe that we're at a stage in crosswords where debuts feature two 3 entry stacks. I've tried making a crossword with just one 3-entry stack and it was grueling. I cannot imagine doing 2 in a debut puzzle. Amazing work. Definitely one of the year's highlights for me so far.
Today is the day of 100 day streak. I'm proud (and embarrassed) to say that this is one of my proudest accomplishments.
Today I achieved a 200-day streak! This puzzle felt like it had a nice theme, but it seems a little confusing out of context. I erased several of my answers crossing theme entries because they didn't make sense before I found out what the theme was. Nice puzzle just was slightly difficult to take from a blank grid. Going for 365 days next!
This is brilliant. I loved every part of this crossword. The theme is very fun, I've always liked themes where there are words hidden inside other words, and I like the unique grid and style. 18x23 is something I'm relatively sure has never been done in an NYT crossword before and I think it was executed well. I've never actually watched The Shawshank though. Excellent work!
Streak of 99... One more day...
I love Mondays like this. Lots of people see Mondays as constricted because they have to be easy, so the themes are less fun. I completely disagree. Crosswords like this one disprove that marginally. Amazing grid. Excellent work!
Great crossword, easily a fun Monday. Amazing grid and nothing bad to say about it. Excellent work!
Amazing crossword today. Fun theme, excellent grid, this is what I would call a perfect example of a Monday. Honestly, there is nothing I can nitpick on this crossword, which is a superb feat from the constructors. Good job!
Any crossword that features wordplay on the entry SPIRALSTAIRCASE is automatically a good puzzle in my book. It's amazing how many ways that it can be clued in a fun way. Excellent job Jackson!
A new best of 4:10 today! I've been gaining on my best for a while and this is the day I finally break through! I love rhyming crosswords like these when they're really clever, and crosswords with lots of spanning entries usually are a recipe for a fun time. Excellent grid and great work!
Nice grid! Fun theme, I was struggling to figure it out until it all suddenly clicked. Great job on this amazing grid!
Really fun crossword! It was very enjoyable with a unique and clever theme I would have never thought of. And hats off to Parker for stacking two 10 letter entries, something I'm much too scared to do in regular constructing. Very well done!
Who else thought 'Inappropriate to say, maybe' was NSFW? Just me? OK.
This was a really fun crossword! I liked traversing my way through it and in the end, the entire experience was on the house! Excellent work!
This was a really fun solving experience for me, and I managed to work out enough of the grid on my own to say that I solved this by myself. I completely agree with the statement about debuts, there have been several amazing debuts that I've solved that I still look back on to this day. Great job!
Fun crossword, with lots of clever wordplay and interesting phrases that kept me coming back. Good job!
Is it just me, or did this puzzle feel much harder than a Tuesday? While the theme was consistent with a Tuesday difficulty, I was nearly 3 minutes over my average. Some clues felt verging on the Wednesday part of the spectrum, and some stretching into Thursday category, which doesn't not feel right for a Tuesday. It's a clever theme, but what is a TOOLROOM? Didn't everybody, when they first read the clue, thought TOOLBOX?
My brain wasn't at it's best today as I did a long flight yesterday but waking up and doing this crossword was exactly what I needed. A fun theme that I could really get behind and simple but fun cluing makes this one of my favorite Tuesdays. Definitely a crossword I'll look back at. Good job Howard!
Something I liked in this crossword was in the middle, between the two diagonal sets of black squares, diagonally, it spells GRR, which is exactly how I felt tackling some of these clues.
I have a love-hate relationship with crosswords like these. One one hand, they usually have really fun themes and grids that are super enjoyable to work out. But the main element of this type of crossword is that the theme entries are basically impossible to just type in yourself, you will almost always have to look it up or try to figure it out from the crossing entries, but that might not even make sense unless you looked at in in a very specific way (cough 41A cough). I'm not saying these types of crosswords are bad, if done right they're really fun! But please, make it actually possible to work out theme entries. Still a fun crossword!
Amazing crossword, but there is one thing. I searched up the Shake it Off lyrics and 'hate' is actually repeated five times, not four. Amazing theme though. Good job!
This was a great grid that I enjoyed alot. Constructors never fail to bedazzle me with amazing themes and clever clues. Great job!
Fun theme, but I didn't get it until I was looking back at the crossword after solving. Noticing the AH, AH, AHCHOO was definitely a lightbulb moment for me.
I am below the age of 25 and have never heard the phrase 'so extra'. Fight me on this.
I use texting shorthand alot and I have never seen the abbreviation OTOH ever. Might just be a me thing but IDK. (Yes it was intentional I used IDK at the end of that)
Very nice crossword. Amazing debut by Boaz and fun 14 letter crossings. Very well done!
Pretty nice theme, and really fun fill. I never felt I was getting bored while solving. I think this one of the best Mondays we've had in a while
Great crossword with fun theme, but personally I think it could have been better with a revealer. Something like REVERSEORDER or like that. Could just be me though.
I was 3 seconds off my best today... Excellent work!
A fun crossword! I like these types of crosswords with loose themes, because they allow for fun grids. Another grid I remember that had a loose theme was that tea crossword a few months back. Excellent work!
@Sean Good luck! It would be a real shame to forget on day 1000...
Solved 45D while watching Hamilton on TV. Definitely gave me a good chuckle when I solved it.
Why are there so many crossword clues that end 'in slang' but I have never actually heard them said. I'm not even 25
@Paul Good job! Itβs nice to see a fellow Aussie in the comments section.
Who else though 'Catcher of drops' was RAINBUCKET at first? Because I entered it in and couldn't figure out what FTEE meant before I revised and figured out it was RAINBARREL. Took an extra 2 minutes. Amazing grid.
Edit: I meant to say that when you select the theme entries, the blue squares don't fully go into the area which is occupied by the line. It stays inside the normal grid area, which I perfectly understand but it still bugs me.
@Nancy J. You're probably right on that front. One thing I am certain of though, is that scrolling through this forum, it's pretty much turned into a warzone.
This is probably a really minor thing, but I feel like I have to note that MONGOLEMPIRE was featured in the explanation of the theme and the Trickiest Clues section, so, uh, wow.
Good crossword with a fun theme, but I didn't like that IMED, DMED and DQED were all in the same grid.
This would be a really great Thursday, except for the fact that the lines in the theme entries cut off the black squares a little and it really irritates me. Example of once you see it you can't unsee it.
