@jdc it's buy one get one free. As the clue says, you take a penny (away from the answer)/leave a penny (also from the answer). So it becomes buy get one free. Very clever!
Trivially easy to just brute force.
@Barry Ancona Count me as solving without getting the theme. Ah well
Easy enough to brute force, but not getting the theme always bums me out
@Jackson I had THE SOUTHEAST from early. Knowing that OLD FAITHFUL isn't there, but that EVERGLADES is, I was content to just fill out the puzzle and then read about what I missed. Neat puzzle - I wish I had actually gotten it!
@Steve L Both for that one and this one I was able to solve it without understanding it. Kind of a bummer.
I really didn't get this theme. Just brute forced it, which always leaves me feeling a bit hollow. Oh well.
Cute puzzle, but I had the same trouble with it that I do a lot of rebuses, which is that it bugs me to have the U in the across clue just replaced with something that doesn't really make sense until the little graphics kicked in. I think I'm just too literal-minded sometimes.
It bugs me that the names are backwards. Why are they all backwards?
Cute. Little easy for Thursday, I think.
I finished this one pretty quickly, but I just brute-forced it. I still don't really get it - guess I need to read the explanation.
@Francis ah, ok, thanks. I don't think that's indicated anywhere in the puzzle, but at least now I know
I'm sure this has been said, but it's too bad we didn't get something with "Give No Quarter," though fitting "twenty-five" in one square might have been a bit much...
@Ciejai I am not sure I would call the Afro outdated. Plenty of afros in the era of natural hair
