Guess I’m old and a geek since I know what UHF (and VHF, AM, FM, etc.) stand for. I paused to think about how many people have never even heard of those terms!
@Sam Harry Belafonte is hardly a random singer and Rosie Perez, while perhaps not a A-lister, isn’t exactly random either. That said, if you’re on the younger side, perhaps they aren’t familiar to you.
Interesting day to have SAKS as an answer (and a down one at that)! 😉
The clue for SHAG was a bit of a surprise. SHAG was my initial thought but I thought the clue was a bit crass for NYT and my mind was, as usual, in the gutter. Glad to see I was wrong. 😁 SWIG and SWAG were fun as well. Regarding comments about CAPTAIN PHILLIPS not being a well known movie, I have to disagree. It was nominated for six Oscars, including Best Picture, and was quite a hit. But then again, maybe I’m just getting old.
“Extends his regards”? “Bit of a stretch”? I see what you did there. I love it! Keep them coming.
Thanks for Split Enz. One of my favorite 80s bands. The Finn brothers would be proud. https://youtu.be/wiqBlKnb91A?si=2DBNyXiB9wolf1Yk
@Will L In my experience, rebuses like this (alternating letters, not complete words) are usually accepted in the app when entered either as X, Y, XY, YX, X/Y, or Y/X, which may explain what you’re seeing.
@Steve L Those shows aired well into the ’70s as I grew up watching them.
@Sophie It started as This Can’t Be Yogurt but was changed to The Country’s Best Yogurt after they got sued.
@Barry Ancona Today’s Theme is missing from the iOS app article and the link to it is broken as well.
@Wendy Could also be THREE PE O making the cross NET.
@Dori A let in tennis is a do-over. It occurs when the server’s ball hits the net but lands in the service box (the ball isn’t allowed to touch the net on a serve). It can also be called by the chair umpire if something outside of the players’ control interferes with the serve.
