This was probably the hardest Tuesday puzzle I’ve seen. That alone doesn’t make it a bad puzzle but difficulty caused by a disguised theme and obscure clues does make it bad. How does anyone know who designed Nancy Reagan’s dresses 40 years ago? And “no two ways about it” is a weak trick.
Great puzzle. Had trouble with some of the fill but love the theme.
@HeathieJ I love tricks, misdirects, and word play. Dashes for clues is none of those. I hate this puzzle.
@Elizabeth @Sara is spot on. I’ve spent a long time on difficult puzzles and feel satisfied when I finally finish. I have patience with puzzles just not for concealed clues.
@Andrzej Has there ever been a puzzle based entirely on musicals or sports?
@Andrzej Absolutely perfect way to put it.
Maybe I’m not smart enough to enjoy this puzzle. I HATED it. I solved it without understanding the theme at all. I still don’t get the theme and never will. What a waste of time.
Good puzzle but I have to join those complaining about the clues. In particular, “minor team” doesn’t exist. It’s either called a “farm team” or, more formally, a “minor league affiliate.”
