Fun rebus puzzle! The clues containing rebuses were very fairly clued. That combined with their predictable placement on the “WALLS” meant this puzzle came together fairly quickly. Well conceived and constructed in my book. Bravo!

UCLA for 1-down yesterday, and again today for the penultimate vertical. Maybe it’s a sign? I sent in my application to UCLA law on Friday. It’s my top choice if admitted, as long as I can make the financials work out. Wish me luck! And welcome back to the job Mr. Shortz!

@Patrick did you mean TEAR? TEAR is in fact used three times as a constituent word of three answers, always including a rebus square, and each with a different meaning. Personally, it didn’t take away from my enjoyment of the puzzle or the rebus clues at all.

Bottom right corner — ENROLLS crossed with UCLA. It’s a sign!

A fun one overall! Got through it rather quickly, despite misinterpreting the effect of the braids. I solved the paired verticals first, and there for had some acrosses crossed on occasion. I was happy enough to see valid clues in the braids, without realizing I had it all backwards! If solving with pen and paper, I would have been satisfied that I at least had the intended answers to each clue. In this case, I am glad the app gives the extra push to solve for the intended configuration!
