I appreciated the start of this puzzle, and I think I would have enjoyed it very much. Reaching the large center clue, however, gave me a jolt followed by a pang, and I decided to leave it unfinished. People are saying that it's no big deal, and that we should just accept that this work and this author are still a major part of pop culture, but you cannot deny that she has caused real harm to real people (including my family). If people who haven't been directly harmed could agree that the harm is real and agree to just let it all fade away without further mentions like this, it would hurt a little less.
@SP Okay, I thought about this kind of comparison, and I understand that history has seen more and worse, and there are too many possible triggers to avoid them all. However, as the person above you said, this harm is ongoing, and the more people who can acknowledge that now, the better.
I enjoyed much of this puzzle. The EMPTYSTARE, however, was quite disappointing, as I couldn't believe that someone would choose to use AMOEBAS when amoebae is available and obviously the superior plural.
