@Terry it doesn’t really matter which way you spin the three letters - there are only two configurations, and if you keep spinning you will land with the correct arrangement. If the letters left to right are ABC and you spin them clockwise, at 90° you get ABC top to bottom, at 180° you get CBA left to right, at 270° you get CBA top to bottom, and at a full rotation you are back to ABC left to right. If you go anticlockwise, the pattern is ABC, CBA, CBA, ABC.

@Oikofuge As an Aussie I was definitely confused by SQUIRRELLED. It only clicked when I remembered that in some American accents it would be pronounced “squorled”.

@Jones so do I. I think it is only a one-syllable word in the USA, and even then maybe not with all American accents.

@Anthony The term “tea” is used by drag queens to denote truth, or more accurately, gossip. If they “spill the tea” then they are sharing confidential or salacious secrets. If they ask “what’s the tea?” then they want to know some inside information.

I am surprised and delighted at the picture on the crossword column today, as I know the people in the photo! They are a duo called The Circus Firemen and hail from my city in Australia. Their work has taken them to festivals all over the world, and I have seen them perform on street corners as well as on big stages. They are lovely guys with a great sense of humour, and their show is fantastic. If any readers get a chance to see them live I would highly recommend it!

@Madsterino I think perhaps generational? Referring to a “blue movie” is an older term for talking about pornography and I have heard my mother (a boomer) refer to things as being “a bit blue”, however it is not something that I (an older millennial) would use in conversation.
