I see the merit of "word found in" clues but "word found at the start of" is equivalent to just giving you the answer. The thing about crosswords is you know how many letters are in the answer... not much left to deduce

@Eric D I tend to be pedantic when color terms are clued in a way I think is technically wrong, but I understand that when they are used colloquially the definitions are a little looser. However, in this instance, the clue is so technical that IMO the answer really should be technically accurate.

There was a vestige of a previous cluing in the TREE -> BIRCH shared highlight, at least for me on desktop/web. I'm always curious how that happens; was it a last minute change?

I'm generally a big wordplay fan but the cluing on this one was groaner after groaner for me... maybe it just caught me in a bad mood. I was also a little surprised to see the comments about OASTS, which I think of as a crossword classic! I guess it will always be someone's first time encountering it :)
